Picture 1

We are made up of Hever, Scotney and Tonbridge classes.

The classes are named after castles in the South East of England.

Our school house names have also changed and we are now in either Viking (red), Saxon (blue) or Roman (yellow).

The adults in Hever class are Mrs Dissington, Mrs Wood and Miss Evans.

The adults in Scotney are Mrs Cutts, Miss Giles and Mr King.

The adults in Tonbridge are Mrs Newton, Ms Whitling and Mr Hoult.

This term the children have been thoroughly absorbed in our topic, Burps, Bottoms and Bile.

We started the term with a WOW day, the children dressed up as doctors and nurses and participated in fun activities to introduce the topic.

Our topic this term will be the Blue Abyss. More details to follow...
We have been learning about personification poetry and looked at The Sea Dog by James Reeves. After looking at the different features of personification poetry, the children wrote their own version of the poem.

Term 2

As we are already starting term 2 it is clear that the children have now settled happily into their new classes. This term is very exciting as we will be exploring the world of magic and potions.  To open our topic the children will be given the opportunity to make magical slime. The magical theme will continue through the term culminating in a fashion show parents will be invited to,  showcasing their magic colour mixing designs. This is something we are all looking forward to and we will send out more information closer to the time.

Science

Through science the children are looking at Solids, Liquids and Gases. We will be exploring through scientific investigations the changing states including irreversible and reversible changes. The children will hopefully become real wizards at science through our exciting lessons.

English

In English we will be writing spells and generating imaginative descriptions around character and setting. The focus will continue on reading as we further develop inference and deduction skills, through a variety of guided texts linked to the curriculum. We would like your continued support to ensure your child reads daily at home and this is recorded in the Reading Record. Year 4 spellings will continue to go home every Friday and the children will explore these words all week in class.

Maths

The main focus will mainly be multiplication and division. The children will be exploring a variety of strategies and developing efficient methods.  To support multiplication methods it is vital that children know their times tables. Therefore it is important that the children access Times Tables Rock Stars at home to aide fluency and accuracy within lessons. Your child has a password and login and can access this from a variety of electronic devices. Please ask the class teacher if there is an issue with this.

Year 4 has an open door policy so please contact us if you have any questions or queries.  We are all looking forward to enjoying another term where the children will continue their learning journey through creative fun.

Thank you for your continued support.
