A huge Happy New Year to all the children and their families.

We hope you have all had a wonderful, restful break and are ready for Term 3! 

This term, our whole school concept question is:

'Why lead when you can follow?'

Our question in Year 2 is:

'What makes a good leader?'.

We will be focusing specifically on our local community. 

Within English this term, we will be looking at descriptive writing and using our senses to write our own fire poetry. We will then go onto diary writing, with a focus on what it was like in London 1666.

This links well with our History, where we will be learning all about The Great Fire of London. We will looking at the housing, how people responded which will lead us to drawing conclusions about cause and consequence. 

For Maths, we will continue our shape work and then moving onto learn all about money and applying our skills to practical situations. We will then explore multiplication and division, identifying the connection between repeated addition and multiplication. We will be focusing on our 2's, 5's and 10's timetable throughout.

We will be using different manipulatives to consolidate our understanding including; counters, tens frames and dienes. 

 For Science, we will be exploring 'Materials'. We are going to be focusing on answering some key questions and will refer back to these throughout the term.

They are:

What do we know about everyday materials?

Which material is best?

How well do different materials bounce?

Can solid objects change shape?

Which fabric is the stretchiest?

In art, we will be studying the artist Paul Klee and work with pastels to create colouring pieces of art focusing on texture and pattern. 

In PSHE, we will be learning about 'Health and Well-being' and focusing not only on what makes a healthy body but also a healthy mind.
