It’s 1939 and Britain is at war. Deep down in the Anderson shelter, Year 6 will learn why nations are fighting and why child evacuees must make the long journey from their homes and families into unknown territory.  

We’ll be digging for victory by growing our own rations, and delving deep into a bygone era, when loose lips sunk ships… 

English

During Term 5, we will be reading and exploring the poem, The Highwayman. We will use VIPERS to explore the poem along with making sure we are recapping SATs skills, ready for Week 4. In writing, we will be exploring the story 'Rose Blanche' and writing our own story endings as well as writing an emotive letter.

 

Maths

In preparation for this term’s SATs exams, we will be revisiting and consolidating key learning from the year, with a focus on number fluency, fractions and percentages, and multi-step problems. The children have worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and we know they’re going to do a brilliant job in May! 

 

Big Question Lesson

This term our big question is 'Does conflict effect the way we communicate?'. They will understand the impact of World War 1, and how it led to the start of World War 2. We will also discover the key leaders involved in the conflict, with a focus on Winston Churchill and what made him an inspirational wartime leader.  

 

 

Science

For Science, we will enjoying a science week in the last week of term where we will be exploring a variety of different experiments and activities based on a wide variety of scientific concepts.
