Term 4 - Why do people live near volcanoes?
English
This term we will be writing a non-chronological report on our topic of volcanoes. The children will research and use their knowledge from our topic lessons to help them.
We will continue to have weekly spellings which the children will need to learn at home as well as at school to help them with their weekly spelling quiz.
The children should also continue to read and return their reading record each week.
Maths
In Maths, we will start by completing our work division and will then move into a block of learning about measuring. The children will measure and compare m, cm and mm. They will learn how to convert from one measure to another using their times table knowledge to help them. Finally learning about the perimeter of simple and complex shapes.
We will also be beginning our work on fractions. Firstly, reminding ourselves of what fractions are and then understanding what the numerator and denominator are. They will then begin to compare fractions.
Science
In Science this term we will be learning about Light. The children will explore sources of light and the importance of light to help us see the world around us. We will investigate how light can be reflected and how shadows are formed and changed. We will also look at the importance of protecting our eyes from the sun.
Topic
This term, we will be studying volcanoes and other natural disasters. We will be looking at the layers of the earth, tectonic plates and other elements of physical geography.
We will be learning about the importance of rights, community and charity in our PSHE lessons. Exploring the rights of a child and what we can do to support others who do not have the same rights that we have.
Week 4 will be Arts Week! The children will be investigating the Arts in a chosen country-Spain. We will explore the work of Spanish artists, practice some Spanish dance and producing some wonderful art work.
PE this term will be Cricket and Gymnastics for Richborough Class
Lewes Class will be going swimming this term (please remember to send their swimming stuff each week) They will also have a Gymnastics lesson before they go so will also need to come to school in the PE kit as normal on a Thursday morning.
