Bromstone Primary School

Term 4 - What makes a good place to live?

Welcome back to Term 4!

Year 2’s big concept question is:

'What makes a good place to live?'

... our whole school question in 'What makes our environment special?'

In English, we will be looking at a non- chronological report all about 'orangutans'. We will then adapt this to write our own report all about gorillas.

This links with our geography topic where we will be looking at hot and cold places to live. Our journey will teach us about the world's 7 continents and help us to answer our 'big' question.

In Maths, we will be moving on to fractions, in which we will be learning how to find quarters and thirds. We will then move on to non-unit fractions such as three-quarters. We will then move on to measure where we will be learning how measure length and mass.

We will continue to develop our decoding, comprehension and ‘reading with expression’ skills. Some of us we still being working on Phase 3-5 of phonics but others will be bridging the gap from phonics to Year 2 spelling rules.

For computing we will be continuing to use Purple Mash but this term looking at show to conduct safe and effective searching. We will also cover e-safety using NatterHub.

In DT we will have an exciting DT day where we will be exploring and then making devices using our own 'levers and sliders'. Lastly in PSHE, we will be learning all about money and discussing budgeting, needs and wants. This term, we also have an exciting RE week planned, in which we will be exploring the question:

How should we care for others and the world, and why does it matter?
