Bromstone Primary School
Term 5- Should we always do as we are told?
Welcome to Term 5 and hopefully some sunnier and warmer weather!

This term the whole school question is "What happens when there is conflict?" We started the term with a day learning about what conflict means and how it can lead to both positive and negative outcomes. We also took time to look at symbols of peace. Each child made an origami dove which would contribute to a whole school art instillation, celebrating hope and peace.
English
Our class text is Float by Daniel Miyares, which links to our topic for the term. We will be using this text to write our own narrative, using key vocabulary to describe the stormy setting of the story. Later on in the term, we will be using the text "The Creature" to support us with writing a newspaper report.

Maths
This term we will be moving on from Fractions and looking at Decimals. Children will learn about tenths of a decimal, rounding to the nearest whole number and converting halves and quarters into decimals. Also, we will be looking at money, adding together different amounts, finding the difference and converting pence into pounds. We do ask that children still practise their timetables on a regular basis. Children are encouraged to do their Times Tables Rockstars at home.

History
Our history this term is the Anglo-Saxons, where we will look at the history of the Anglo-Saxons, specifically the chronology and when the Anglo-Saxons arrived, who they were and what impact they had on Britain. We will be examining historical evidence and archaeology to find out if there was a violent invasion or a gradual resettlement.

Wider Curriculum
In PSHE we will be increasing our knowledge of families and relationships. We will be looking at manners, how to recognise emotional and physical boundaries and exploring stereotypes. In French, we will also be looking at 'My Family', where we hope to be able to say our family members' names in French, consolidate the use of nouns and move to learning numbers 11-70, having already learnt numbers 1-10 last term.
Science
Our Science this term will be mainly undertaken during science week. The children will have an opportunity to act like scientists and explore and investigate a number of scientific enquiries and questions. This will be very practical and hands-on. Something the children love. There will also be a science fair, so you can come along and take part in fun activities.
