Term 6:  Our whole school question. Is it better to adapt or stay the same?  

Our Year 4 class question: How has the world changed Thanet?   

Welcome to our final term  of the year. We have so many lovely activities to look forward to. This term is also about getting the children ready for the transition into year 5, and they will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher in July.

English

 

This term we are writing our own piece of persuasive writing in the form of a Holiday Brochure, trying to encourage tourists to Sicily. We will be using our own personal experiences to inform our brochure. Also, we will be writing our own play script linking with the text-The Plague Village.

We ask children to bring their reading books in as often as they can, and please encourage them to read on a daily basis. We will be continuing to develop our VIPERS skills daily with a real focus on inference. Reading books will be checked on a Tuesday.  

Maths  

 

This term we will be  moving on from  Decimals and developing the children's knowledge of shape and time. We will be focusing on converting analogue to digital and looking at 12 hr and 24hr clocks.  With shape, we will look at angles, including obtuse and acute angles.

 The week commencing the 8th June, the children will all complete a Government Year 4 Times table test. This will be done in a calm and non-test-like manner using an iPad, similar to their daily TTRS. We do ask that children still practise their  timetables on a regular basis. Children are encouraged to do their Times Tables Rockstars or Numbots  at home.   

Wider Curriculum

   

In our Geography lessons we will be looking at our local area and Broadstairs. We will consider how it has adapted over time and changed. We  will look at the history of the Broadstairs,  famous visitors to Broadstairs, and we will locate points of interest on a map.  Children will have the opportunity to compare the Broadstairs of the present with the past and consider why Broadstairs has changed. We will focus on map reading skills, identifying keys and symbols used on maps, and gain an understanding as to why people choose to live in a certain location. In Art, we will be exploring the power of identity during Arts week.  Each child in the school will be making a personalised shoebox communicating who they are and what makes them special. Children will also have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills during our weekly ukulele sessions.

Science  

 

Our Science this term is Animals including Humans. The children will be learning to describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans, identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions and construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey.
