In Year One our Big Question is...

What makes a hero?

We will begin our learning with our head boy and head girl leading the school for the day! We will be discussing what characteristics make for strong leadership and reflecting on our own personal heroes. 

English

In English, we will be working on writing a detailed narrative that retells the traditional fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, using descriptive language and a clear story structure. After completing this, we will move on to a non-fiction writing task, where we will research and create a fact file all about heroes, focusing on key information and important characteristics.

 

Maths

In Maths we are focusing on numbers up to 20. We will use our understanding of numbers to 20 to add, subtract, estimate and use a number line. We will then move onto partitioning a number into tens and ones, leading us to counting in tens!

 

Science
This term in Science we are learning about the parts of the human body. We will learn the names of body parts and our five senses.
