Are you born to Lead?

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2023!

This term we will be welcoming Miss McAnulty to Hever Class and I know the children and Parents will all make her feel welcome. 

English

Our class text this term is Butterfly Lion. The Butterfly Lion is one of Michael Morpurgo's most perfectly realised books, The Butterfly Lion recounts the lifelong bond between a young boy and the white lion cub he rescues from the African veld. A lyrical and moving tale of a young boy growing up in Africa, and his lifelong friendship with a white lion. We will be using this text to write our own Playscripts. As well as this, we will be writing a Biography about Henri Rousseau a famous French Artist who is known for his richly coloured and meticulously detailed pictures of  jungles, wild beasts, and exotic figures

Maths

We are moving on to more Multiplication and Division this term. Using our knowledge and strategies to look at factor pairs, multiply by 100 and multiplying and dividing 2 digit and 3 digit numbers. 

Topic 

In Topic lessons we will be locating places on a large scale, identifying continents, draw conclusions between locations using photos, pictures and maps, in particular Africa. We will look at significant places in Africa and the animals that live there. We will be applying our knowledge of food chains, predators and Prey to explore why Lions are the Top of the Food chain. We will be looking at the artwork of Henri Rousseau; colour mixing, his jungle paintings and making our own jungle scenes. Along side this we will work together in PSHE to understand what relaxation feels like, develop a growth mindset acknowledging that mistakes are useful. We will identify our own strengths and what is important to us for our own happiness. 

Science

Our Science this term is 'Animals Including Humans'. Within this Topic we will be Identifying the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions, be able to describe the simple functions of the basic part of the digestive system in humans and finding out how our POO is made! delightful! 

RE Week

We will be answering the question: What does It mean to be a Hindu? 

We will Identify important elements of our life, describe some ways in which Hindus express their faith through puja, aarti and bhajans, as well as Making links between Ghandi's actions and Hindu beliefs. We will describe the four aims of Hindu life, understand what it is like to be a Hindu in Britain today and  explore Hindu Art.
