Term 3 - Do Adventures Need Leaders?

Welcome to term 3 of Year 5! We have lots of exciting things planned, which you can read about below...

English

For Term 3, our class text will be 'Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Caroll. When Lilian Kaye finds a parcel on her grandad's doorstep, she is shocked to see who sent it: a famous Egyptologist, found dead that very morning, according to every newspaper in England! Lil and her friends must embark on an incredible journey - to return the package to its resting place, to protect those they love, and to break the deadly pharaoh's curse . . .

For our writing sessions, we will be developing our biography skills as we discover the amazing life of Pharaoh Hatshepsut and turning our hand to diary writing inspired by Scott of The Antarctic!

Maths

In maths, year 5 will be continuing their work on more advanced multiplication of division, tackling 4 digit by 2 digit long multiplication and dividing increasingly larger numbers with remainders. We will then be jumping back into fractions of quantities and exploring their equivalent decimal representations.

Children will work scientifically and collaboratively to investigate the properties of materials to find the most suitable material for different purposes.  They will have the opportunity to work in a hands-on way to explore dissolving, identifying the different variables in their own investigations.
