Term 3- Who should you follow?

English

Oh Maya Gods!: an EPIC new laugh-out-loud adventure series from the author  of WHO LET THE GODS OUT : Evans, Maz: Amazon.co.uk: BooksIn Term 3, we will be reading Oh Maya Gods by Maz Evans. The book is an adventure of 2 children who happen to travel to the Maya underworld! We will be using VIPERS to explore the story.

In Writing, we will be using the short film 'Eye of the Storm' to write a narrative to build tension. We will be revealing the video slowly each lesson before the children continue to build the tension and write their own story ending. 

 

Maths

In maths, we will be starting the term finishing looking at fractions, focusing on finding fractions of amounts. We will move onto converting units of measure, converting using multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. As well as this, we will be looking at algebra, starting with function machines and then learning what it means when we replace numbers with letters.

Big Question Lessons

The Maya Civilization: Timeline, Farming, Religion, & CultureOur Big Question lessons will have a history focus. We will be using creative compass lessons to explore the life of Ancient Mayans, placing them on a map as well as on a time-line. We will be exploring their legacy, such as a writing system, and focusing on who they followed and why.

We will be using this as inspiration in our art lessons as we will be drawing using perspective, learning how to use a horizon and vanishing point to make an image seem in proportion. 

Science

What is electricity? - BBC BitesizeIn Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. We will be exploring how animals and plants are classified into different groups and whether there are similarities between animals in the local area before finally looking at the importance of microorganisms and why they matter.
