Term 5- What happens when there is conflict?

Welcome to term 5 of the year and hopefully some sunnier and warmer weather.

English

Our class text is Float by Daniel Miyares, which links to our topic for the term . We will be using this text to write our own Narrative, using key vocabulary to describe the stormy setting of the story.  Later on in the term we will be using the text The creature to support us with writing a Newspaper report.

Maths

This term we will be moving on from Fractions and looking at Decimals. Children will learn about tenths of a Decimal, rounding to the nearest whole number and converting Halves and quarters into decimals. Also, we will be looking at money, adding together different amounts, finding the difference and converting pence into pounds. We do ask that children still practise their times tables on a regular basis. Children are encouraged to do their Times Tables Rockstars at home.

Topic

Our Topic this term is the Anglo Saxons, where we will look at the History of the Anglo Saxons, specifically chronology and when the Anglo Saxons arrived, who they were and what impact they had one Britain. Our whole School concept this term is Conflict and for our BIG QUESTION day we worked together to create part of Picasso's Guernica, a piece of Art that represented a conflict

In PSHE we will be increasing our knowledge of families and relationships. We will be looking at manners, how to recognise emotional and physical boundaries and exploring stereotypes. In French we will also be looking at 'My Family' where we hope to be able to say our family members names in French, consolidate the use of nouns and move to learning numbers 11-70, having already learnt numbers 1-10 last term.

Science

Our Science this term is 'Living things and their habitats'. Within this Topic we will be Identifying the different types of trees based on their leaves, recognise environmental changes and apply our knowledge of Life Cycles. We will also have Science Week where we will take part in some fun, exciting and thought provoking activities.

We are going to see Shrek the West end Musical on Thursday 2nd May, which is very exciting.
