Term 5 - Can we change without conflict?
'What Happens When There is Conflict?'
Can we change without conflict?
Welcome back to term 5! This term, our overarching question is 'What Happens When There is Conflict?' where Year 3 will be focusing on the secretive and dangerous life of Thanet's most famous smuggler, Joss Snelling....
For Term 5, our class text - '101 Dalmatians' by Dodie Smith - will help us to explore the conflict between good and evil as Pongo and Missis fight to save their puppies from Ms. De Vil! We will also be reading 'The Secret of Black Rock' by Joe Todd-Stanton as inspiration for our own adventure narrative, as well as creating a detailed biography on the life of Thanet's own Joss Snelling.
In maths, children will be returning to our fractions topic and exploring how to add, subtract and partition wholes. They will also be developing their understanding of money with addition and subtraction to find change, as well as building on skills to help tell the time on analogue and digital clocks, working out durations and solving time problems.
Topic & Science
This term will have a history focus as we explore the secretive and dangerous world of Thanet's ancient smugglers! We will be using our central question 'Can we change without conflict?' to help better understand the battles between smugglers and the law and how it helped shape our local area and country as a whole.
For science, we will be exploring how different forces act on objects and each other. Children will categorise magnetic and non-magnetic objects and understand that a magnet has 2 poles that attract and repel.
