Term 5 - How do you grow a better world?

Welcome back to Summer 1, we hope you have all had a well rested Easter break!

This term, our whole school concept question is 'What happens when there is conflict?'. For Year 2, we are going to be exploring 'How do you grow a better world?'.

In English, we are going to start the term by exploring persuasive letter writing based on the story – There's a RangTan in my Bedroom.   We then move onto more narrative writing based on the story- The Crow's Fable.

In Maths, we are going to be covering most of our measure units, which include learning about length and height, volume and capacity and mass. We will also be learning to tell the time; in Year 2, children are expected to know the time to the nearest minute both on an analogue clock and digital.

For Science this term, we are looking forward to British Science Week which is a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. We will be celebrating in the last week of term with lots of run activities, competitions and a science fair within school.

In the afternoons, in Computing we will be exploring Natterhub and purple mash to look at the work of impressionist artwork to recreate our own artwork based on a range of styles.

In Art, we are going to be developing our cutting, folding, designing and evaluating skills to create our own 3D sculptures using paper.

In PSHE, we are going to be exploring safety and the changing body. We will be looking at using the internet safely, communicating online, secrets and surprises, medicine, road safety and finally appropriate contact and scientific words for body parts (we will inform parents before teaching this to share the content prior to teaching).
