Term 6- How did the tortoise get his shell?

This term we will be exploring the concept of Adaptation.

In English, we will be exploring poetry, creating our own narrative poems about animals that adapt to the their environment. We will also be looking at traditional Nigerian folk tales as this was one home to the Kingdom of Benin.

In Maths, we will be doing lots of project based learning, beginning with organising and opening bakeries, thinking about quantities, money, profit, packaging and losses! This will be followed by planning and organising tours of another country, looking at money conversion and line graphs. Finally, we will end the year looking at the future and how bills are paid, how mortgages work and wages.

In Science, we are exploring Evolution and Adaptation.  To begin with, we will look at inheritance and how our parents pass down certain characteristics. We will also look at adaptation in certain animals, with a focus on Charles Darwin's discovery about Galapagos Finches. We will then explore further the need for animals and plants to adapt to their environments.

In History, we are exploring the Kingdom of Benin: a civilisation that once existed in the country we now know as Nigeria. We will explore where this is/was in the World as well as when it was in the timeline of history they have already studied. We will explore their way of life and, in Art, we will be recreating their famous Bronze statues.
