What are Rights?

Welcome back, we hope you all had a wonderful half term holiday. We are very excited about the new term and lots of interesting learning.

This term we will pose the question ‘What are rights?’ We will be exploring rights through some interesting texts that will inspire your children to question the world, begin to understand rights and the importance of having rights. We will begin our learning by reflecting on Black History Month and thinking about the rights of all members of society. Our learning will be based on the book ‘Welcome’ where we will consider how to be a good citizen and ways to make everyone feel welcome. One of our focuses will be considering the rights to shelter through the story of the ‘Three Little Pigs.’

Just a reminder that PE is on a Monday afternoon and Forest School is every Wednesday. Please check the website for clothing lists. As the weather is changing and the ground is becoming muddier we would recommend a change of shoes for forest school days.

Please can your child bring their reading book and reading record to school every Monday and Thursday each week so that we can ensure they are getting new books to enjoy throughout the week. As well as reading at home the children also enjoy group guided reading every day. It has been wonderful to see how enthusiastic the children are during our guided reading sessions.

From 17th October – 16th December Canterbury Class will have a student teacher working alongside Mrs Backhouse. We are excited to welcome Miss Evans into Year One.

As always if you have any questions or queries please feel free to talk to us at the gate.

Best wishes,

Mrs Backhouse, Miss Drake and the Year One team

Throughout black history week we will be focusing on the book Welcome.

Welcome by Barroux
