Term 5 - Scented Garden

The summer is finally here and what a perfect topic for Bromstone Year Two children to enjoy this term... Scented Garden.

Let’s tiptoe through the tulips together and discover the sights, sounds and smells of the garden. We’ll find out how to look after plants, ask the experts questions and appreciate the flowers. We’ll write an information book about plants, follow instructions, enjoy the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and write stories of our own. Discovering our green fingers will be fun when we plant and tend a pizza garden of herbs. We’ll also learn about the different parts of a plant and create our own ‘planting and growing’ action rhyme. Our senses will help us describe and sort a range of smells and we’ll make beautifully scented products. We’ll look closely at a wide variety of plants, create detailed, observational drawings and press real flowers to use in collages. At the end of our project, we will have become plant experts! We’ll create a presentation about plants, share the information books that we have made and design a fantasy garden.

We have lot's of fantastic learning opportunities that we will be sharing here as throughout term 5.

What a wonderful start to our 5th term in Year Two.  Leeds and Rochester Class have been relishing our new topic: Scented Garden.  We already have lots of photos of the children's brilliant learning!

Leeds class: In art, we have been observing and drawing pressed flowers and plants. Today we have been designing our own pressed flower book marks ready to make our own!

In Leeds class, we have been improving our art skills and did brilliant observing. We had different flowers to look at carefully and then sketch into our art books. We showed lots of concentration, just like Camilla Concentrate!

Rochester Class have been seeing how the shape and colour and food can affect its taste.

In Leeds class, we used natural materials to create collages and leaf rubbing drawings. Take a look at our final art pieces!

In Leeds class, we have been exploring forest school to find different shape and size leaves. We collected these as a class ready for our Art lesson! Keep an eye out for our Leaf collages...

We have been busy on our WOW day, creating our own class garden in Leeds class. This is to celebrate and begin our topic journey ‘ The Scented Garden’.

To celebrate and begin our new topic ‘The Scented Garden’, we looked at different herbs and fruits from plants and then made our own ‘Herby butter’. We tried this on bread and found it very tasty!

Orienteering in Leeds class. We used maps to locate the different points, around the school grounds, and then answered questions about different plants, flowers and trees.

Amazing Scarecrows and gardening! Thank you for all the home learning this term.
